$1,000 a Month From a Minisite

minisite

by Patrick Toerner on March 19, 2010

This entry is part 1 in the series $1,000 Per Month Minisite

The title says it all.  I am going to make a minisite, that will be making $1,000 per month.  Here are some questions and answers below:

1. What is a minisite?
-Well, it is a miniature site. It focuses on a niche, helps people with their problem and tries to make a few dollars by doing so.

2. Do you have any experience with minisites?
-I have made a few, but none worth keeping. They were there just to make money and not focusing on actually helping people with their problems.

3. How will you be getting traffic for this minisite?
-If you haven’t heard, I am banned from Adwords. So my only real other option is organic traffic.

4. What niche will your minisite be in?
-No idea yet.

5. Why the sudden urge to make a minisite?
-I purchased Cloud Living by Glen from ViperChill. It inspired me to try some minisites again. I have always loved the idea of minisites: you help people with their problems and sometimes get paid. (I guess that is every business in a sense)

6. Gonna do all the work yourself?
-I’m thinking about getting some help with the SEO. (Know anyone good?)

7. Why do I care?
-To learn! It is all going to be laid out here. Step by step. I am sure I am going to make some mistakes, and you guys will be the first to know. I am going to hide the niche for a month or two, though, just in case one of you tries to outdo me!

8. What if you fail?
-It’s just another notch on my fail belt. And I will have just found another way to “not make money online.” There can only be so many before I start finding ways that actually work!

9. How can I follow this?
- Subscribe to my RSS feed here.
- Get email updates every time I make a new post here.
- And while you’re at it, why don’t you follow me on twitter here.

10. I have another question! Where can I ask it?
- Either below in the comments, through my contact page, or email me direct at patrick [at] OneMillionBy30.com

I just set up a mini-site using Glen’s template from Cloud Living. Launched it a couple of days ago and will work on it some more this weekend.

I’m hoping to hit $500 a month with it. I’d love for it to rank in Google but we’ll see. For now, I intend to write articles and promote the site through them. Not that I love it this way, but you gotta do what you gotta do!

Looking forward to your progress.

Hi Patrick
“help people with their problems and sometimes get paid” sounds like a perfect business plan to me.

Problem is finding the problem and then finding a solution that people will pay for.

My blog is about Public Speaking and since many people have a Fear of Public Speaking, my solution would have to be to help them overcome that fear.

Sounds simple!

Well, I will be writing about how I found the problem, but a quick preview would be to find a problem you have. If you have it, others are bound to have the same problem. Thanks for the post Keith!

One million by 30! Hmm, witty – I’m a first time visitor. Anyway, $1,000 / month from a minisite is achievable given that you put your heart into it!

I love the last one. It really reminds me of the strait fact that you just have to keep trying and every time you don’t make it, it just means you’ve found one way NOT to make it. All that means is that your one step closer TO making it.

Good points.

What niche will your minisite be in? That really is the ultimate question. It’s not easy finding the perfect topic for a minisite. Especially one that you can put your heart and soul into, even if it is just a couple of pages. I believe that the best products and topics to push are ones that are near and dear to you. Things that you love and use and can really motivate people about.

I’ll be following this and seeing where it goes. I’m very interested in developing minisites. Maybe a coffee table book about coffee tables??? ;)

What SEO are you looking for that you don’t already use in your blogging?

Ah Seinfeld! It is basically the same SEO but you really can not expect people to link to your minisite, so you gotta do a lot more link building.

You gotta start somewhere! Minisites are a pretty cool thing if you can get good at them. (Which I am still in the process of)

Interesting article Patrick! I actually thought of creating a mini web site. Do you really earn around $1000 per month from these web sites? Btw. do you use blogspot or do you host your web sites yourself, I mean the mini web sites?! Thanks for stopping by at my blog ;)

I don’t make $1,000 yet :)

I have made plenty of minisites and made money by getting traffic from Google Adwords, but now I am going to try to do it with organic traffic, from search engines.

I have researched a bunch on making minisites and I don’t think $1,000 a month is unreasonable at all. I will lay out exactly how I did everything. If I make $1000 per month that should help a lot of people to do the same. If I don’t make it, maybe I can get some feedback as to why, and people can learn from my mistakes as well.

There is no loss in creating one of these, except for maybe the $7 domain. I have a hosting account where I can host 25 domains, I just put them all on there. It is getting kind of slow, as you might have noticed though. So I am thinking about moving/upgrading.

I actually use blogspot to get backlinks (will talk about that later), I host the sites myself.
